10 Classic Films That Should Be Remade
4. A Clockwork Orange
A Clockwork Orange is a title that drummed up major controversy upon its release - much like the original Anthony Burgess novel it's based on. The film is utterly infixed with a sense of violence and misbehaviour that caused it to be considered grotesque and offensive.
However, a reason that it deserves to be remade comes in the fact that as cinema-goers we are far more used to levels of depravity and experimentalism then general audiences were in the time of its original debut.
The purpose of the story is to present a character that commits deplorable acts that cause the audience to struggle to sympathise with him. While films from the seventies still had violence, they were only just beginning to explore the sometimes grey area of crime and impulse, but the modern film world is full of anti-heroes who commit awful deeds but still gain sympathies such as Deadpool, Billy Butcher or even cartoon characters like Rick Sanchez and Bojack Horseman.
A modern reimagining of this film could have a compelling challenge in the form of genuinely creating a picture that shocks audiences and questions the lack of sensitivity our modern culture has with graphic violence. Thus making comments not only on the character of Alex, but our society as a whole.
