10 Classic Halloween Movies To Watch This October 2021
5. The Exorcist III: Legion (Director's Cut)
Even though The Exorcist II: The Heretic was a travesty, horror fans at the time were still optimistic about The Exorcist III since it was directed by William Peter Blatty - the author of The Exorcist novel.
The story centres around a lieutenant interrogating patients at a psychiatric hospital, believing one of them is the legendary Gemini Killer. Since Blatty wrote the novel that this story is based on, it seemed logical he would be the best person to conjure the same level of horror that viewers experienced upon watching the original Exorcist film.
Sadly, the film tanked and was met with poor reviews. But in 2016, the original director's cut was mysteriously unearthed. Although the theatrical Exorcist III had a typical narrative , this incarnation has an otherworldly Twin Peaks-like style, which feels more suited to this kind of story.
Some unnecessary sub-plots are removed, which gives the director's cut more time to develop the characters and their relationships with one another. Much like Zack Snyder's Justice League, Blatty's version of Exorcist III feels like a different movie rather than a separate cut and so, should be watched even if you've seen the original version.
