10 Classic Halloween Movies To Watch This October 2021
2. Rosemary's Baby
Rosemary's Baby centres around a young couple, Rosemary and Guy, who are struggling to have a child. After moving to a new apartment, Rosemary becomes concerned when her neighbours start behaving suspiciously. Over time, she discovers her neighbours are Satanists who intend to have bare The Devil's spawn.
When summarised, Rosemary's Baby sounds like it has a few similarities to The Omen. But it's not just the story that's similar. Like The Omen, the film relies on invoking fear rather than relying on gore and violence.
Even when the movie has the opportunity to show something disturbing, it focuses on the characters' reactions instead. The best example of this is when Rosemary bares witness to her newborn son. In Ira Levin's original novel, the child is described as having tiger eyes, claws, and cloven hooves. However, we never see these details in the film. Instead, the camera lingers on Rosemary's haunted face, projecting an image in the viewer's mind more disturbing than anything that could be put to screen.
There is no single moment in Rosemary's Baby that'll frighten the life out of you but you'll probably struggle to sleep long after the credits roll.
