6. Lex Luthor Wastes His Talent Turning The Earth Radioactive - Superman Returns

Lex Luthor is Superman's nemesis. Generally speaking, you don't end up with a useless arch-enemy if you're an all-conquering alien, but on the showing of Superman Returns, Clark really doesn't have that much to worry about. Luthor grows an island from the radioactive Kryptonite, raising the sea levels, before planning to charge the richest citizens in the world to escape the floods, and come and live on his freaky new continent. But why on Earth did he grow an island from a radioactive substance? Lex is shooting himself in the foot by building an estate somewhere that will eventually kill him; why would anyone else want to live there? What exactly is he going to spend his billions of pounds on when he's living on a derelict, grey lump floating around the endless oceans of Earth, slowly dying of radiation poisoning? There's nowhere else to go and nothing else to do; you're alone with the richest idiots who chose to come with you and die slowly than accept the pending apocalypse. And anyway, what's to stop a rebel uprising of this new world, throwing him off the island? His three guards? There's no scientist on Earth who can grow an island; Luthor really is a clever man. It's such a shame that he wasted such brilliant promise on this terrible idea.
