10. The Matrix Trilogy’s Not So Big Showdown

Where did it all go wrong, Matrix trilogy? Though the first film was pretty much universally loved, the general consensus on The Wachowskis second instalment was mixed with some critics claiming the franchise was going downhill and by the time The Matrix Revolutions rolled into cinemas the magic was truly gone.

To call all of The Matrix Revolutions awful would be dismissive, but the moment that audiences had been waiting for – the epic face-off between Neo and Agent Smith – was admittedly quite the anti-climax.

Compared to the ground-breaking brilliance of the first Matrix’s bullet time sequences, the effects in the Neo vs. Smith showdown felt somewhat subpar and the fighting choreography more repetitive than packing a proper punch.
