10 Classic Movies That Will Inevitably Be Remade

4. The Matrix (1999)

A classic of both the action and sci-fi genres, The Wachowskis' breakout feature was a critical and commercial success that would turn out to be one of the most influential movies in recent history. While the sequels were greatly disappointing and veered dangerously close to pretension thanks to an overabundance of philosophical nonsense, the original's world-building, inventive fight scenes and groundbreaking special effects resulted in one of the most interesting and unique blockbusters ever made. Given the ever-increasing reliance of today's society on technology, one day Warner Bros. will decide to remake The Matrix for tomorrow's tech-savvy audiences. The obvious reason for remaking the movie is that as technology continues to improve and dominate our lifestyles, the movie's premise will become even more relevant. Dystopian futures, leather-clad heroes and sentient machines have been well-worn tropes of the sci-fi genre for decades, but The Matrix gave these elements a fresh spin with the notion that our lives are an entirely false reality, and Hollywood has shown on numerous occasions that it is more than happy to run a great idea into the ground. While it likely won't happen for the next couple of decades at least, The Matrix will eventually be given an update that appeals to the current generation, although based on the quality of recent sci-fi remakes Total Recall and Robocop the final product will likely favor explosions and spectacle over any underlying themes or ideas prevalent in the original.

I don't do social media, so like or follow me in person but please maintain a safe distance or the authorities will be notified. Don't snap me though, I'll probably break. I was once labelled a misogynist on this very site in a twenty paragraph-long rant for daring to speak ill of the Twilight franchise. I stand by what I said, it's crap.
