10 Classic Movies You Didn't Know Were Slammed By Critics

8. Predator

As any fan of action knows, if you want to watch the best of the best you have to travel back to the 1980s and revisit the great films of Arnold Schwarzenegger when he was at the top of his game. From Terminator through to Total Recall, these movies were as excellent as they were ultraviolent. Perhaps Arnie's leanest and meanest action film of all time is Predator, directed by John McTiernan the year before he introduced John McClane and the Die Hard series. But not everyone agreed that Predator represented the pinnacle of great action - a reviewer for the Christian Science Monitor described its script, values and mentality as "Stone Age". Going even further, the New York Times slammed Predator as "alternately grissly and dull, with few surprises," although quite why you'd expect a plot that twists and turns in a science fiction movie about soldiers fighting an alien is anyone's guess.
