10 Classic Special Effects That Put Modern Hollywood To Shame

8. Star Wars

Star Wars

If memory serves me correctly this was the first movie I ever saw in a movie theater, and I was so little that I had trouble keeping the seat down so my mom and sister (as well as the family friends that were with us) had to put their coats in the seat with me so I wouldn€™t be catapulted through the air to the back row. Even as a little kid I knew that the special effects from the movie were awe-inspiring and even though I was completely terrified of the Tusken Raiders, I couldn€™t take my eyes off the screen. I was so enthralled by them. Additionally, I€™ve always thought that the scenes where the X-Wings, TIE fighters and other spacecraft were flying through space looked amazing and were way ahead of their time. There are so many excellent-looking effects from the movie it is hard to cover them all, but without a doubt the ones that always stood out for me take place during the cantina scene. It is here we meet quite the motley crew of different alien races and assorted creatures, and they all look unique (and maybe even a little beautiful) in their own individual ways. Lucas and his crew really outdid themselves with this scene and it remains one of my favorite parts of all of the Star Wars films.
