10 Clever Ways Horror Movies Foreshadow the Ending
4. Old Technology - Final Destination 5
Final Destination 5 follows a group of survivors who narrowly avoid being killed on a collapsing bridge. Since they were supposed to die, the Grim Reaper begins picking them off one by one to restore balance.
Now, every Final Destination instalment concludes with the ensemble believing they've outsmarted the embodiment of Death, only for at least one of them to be killed off in glorious fashion. For Final Destination 5, it maintains this tradition but goes about it in a different way.
After our two leads Sam and Molly cheat Death once again, they decide to take a well-deserved vacation. As the pair prepare for their flight, they notice a passenger being escorted off, screaming how the plane is going to explode.
Anyone familiar with the Final Destination franchise should recognise this passenger is Alex Browning, who correctly prophesied the plane would blow up in the original movie. In that moment, it becomes evident that FD5 is a secret prequel that takes place in 2000.
This revelation initially seems unexpected, but it's noticeable upon revisiting the film. Firstly, none of the featured music takes place after the year 2000. On top of that, the characters use clunky keyboards and old-fashioned mobile phones from that era. And once you spot one of the character's gift certificate expires in 2001, you'll wonder how you didn't piece it together sooner.
