10 Co-Stars Who Hated Each Other On Set

2. Robert Shaw & Richard Dreyfuss (Jaws)

Spielberg's 1975 masterpiece Jaws is undoubtedly one of the greatest films of all time. The acting is absolutely superb, the suspense is gripping, and to this day, it has not really remotely dated. One of the most fascinating aspects of the whole movie, however, was the on-screen dynamic between Robert Shaw's working-class fisherman Quint and Richard Dreyfuss' arrogant middle-class marine biologist Hooper. They loathed each other in the film, and, it turns out, the two actors clashed constantly off screen as well. According to Spielberg, things often turned ugly between the pair, with Shaw seemingly forever irritated by Dreyfuss, and acting as something of a bully in the process. It didn't help that Shaw was quite often under the influence on set. Dreyfuss was the less to blame of the two, unquestionably, but his cocky nature certainly didn't help matters. In hindsight, the hatred between the two helped make the film as special as it remains to this day. Dreyfuss often spoke about what a lovely person Shaw was away from filming, and there was clearly a deep-lying respect between the talented duo.
