10 Comedy Actors Who Made Great Horror Movie Characters

4. Aubrey Plaza As Allison - Black Bear

Though Aubrey Plaza is known for her time on Parks and Recreation as well as other comic features, she always fits into the world of horror fairly seamlessly. Although projects such as Legion and Ingrid Goes West are not traditional entries in the realm of horror, they feature a large number of uncomfortable moments, a good deal of which are anchored by Plaza.

So it was no surprise to see her excel in Black Bear, a mind-bending black comedy with unsettling, horror-esque elements that explores the undeniably uncomfortable effects of adapting a film from personal events.

The actress plays Allison, a filmmaker who intends to find her creative spark and does so by retreating to a lakeside house that belongs to Gabe and Blair (Christopher Abbott and Sarah Gadon). The film posits Alison's sarcastic nature as a source of discomfort for the couple, but this belies a more unusual tale at play.

Plaza's knack for playing witty, droll characters is taken to new heights in this reality-warping film as Allison's various personifications feel distinct from one another but still work within the context of the film's unusual narrative.
