10 Comedy Movies Audiences Walked Out Of

1. Holmes & Watson

If there were an Olympic medal for making audiences leave the cinema, then Holmes & Watson would win all the gold. That's not the kind of reaction you expect from one of literature's most formidable detectives.

On paper, a self-aware and raucous parody of the literary icon seemed like it had legs to stand on. The starring duo (Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly) were known for their great chemistry, as seen in movies like Talladega Nights and Step Brothers. Plus, the Sherlock Holmes IP had yet to experience any scathing mainstream satire. Sadly, any legs it did have were kicked out from under it as soon as it got walking.

The film was utterly diabolical and filled with cheap/lazy gags about modern culture (like anyone ever needed to see Will Ferrell making fun of duck facing in 2018). It also relied way too heavily on the semi-improvisational humour Ferrell and Reilly are known for, but without anything funny to say.

Thanks to the film's utter direness, it's no surprise that audiences were walking out well into its arrival. The film didn't even get a screening to critics before its release, meaning the filmmakers likely knew the evil they were setting upon the world.

When you make a bad movie, people won't sit through it. Now, that's elementary, my dear Watson.
