10 Comic Book Castings That Were Perfect (But In A Different Role)
2. Topher Grace As Peter Parker Instead Of Eddie Brock
Venom is one of the few super villains to star successfully in his own comic book series. That's how popular he is. Expectations were high when it was originally announced that he would be a key antagonist in Spider-Man 3, that is until people actually saw the film. Sam Raimi admits that Venom was forced upon him and unfortunately, this reluctance to use the character really does show. His entire arc in Spider-Man 3 feels rushed from the start and numerous fans also have issues with the casting. To be fair to Topher Grace though, he did what he could with the role, but it's painfully obvious that he just wasn't right for the part. If only the producers had thought of casting Grace in the Spider-Man role instead. As the star of That 70's Show, Grace nailed the likable teenage geek bit and with some body building, the young star could have easily looked the part too. Also, Tobey Maguire's comic timing was almost non-existent. Just saying.
