10 Comic Book Characters That Were Slaughtered By Hollywood

9. The Fantastic Four

While Galactus was terribly translated to screen, the titular heroes received an even worst deal; Jessica Alba was horrifically miscast as Sue Storm; the film targeted younger audiences meaning it was extremely light hearted and comedic in comparison to its shadowy contemporary of the X-Men franchise. Rather than seeing the heroes as complex characters with their own issues, the film gave us a two dimensional good versus evil challenge. This challenge was inevitably going to be won by the heroes, and while this is a crucial element of comic book adaptations, there is often a sense of overwhelming threat that damages the equilibrium. The butchering of the Fantastic Four has led to a new reboot to be released next year, and as this looks set to exist in the X-Men universe it is likely to be slightly darker than its predecessor. Rather than altering the comic material in order to fit the new era, this film adhered to the source material far too strictly, and this was ultimately to the detriment of the film. The Thing received particularly bad coverage in these films as his rocky exterior was poorly created by the special effects department, with a rubberised look dominating the supposedly frightening exterior. Some of this is uncontrollable; to create a rock-like costume is a hard task. The powers of the remaining three were bought to screen predominantly by CGI, and due to the advancement of this technology and the rapid aging that often accompanies an over-reliance on CGI this film butchers the daunting powers of the Fantastic Four.
