10 Comic Book Characters That Were Slaughtered By Hollywood

8. The Incredible Hulk

Mark Ruffalo€™s Hulk was perhaps the best seen on screen; Ang Lee€™s 2003 interpretation was weak at best, with few redeeming features. The 2008 Incredible Hulk remedied some of this, with a semi-descent version of the character, but there is something innate about the Hulk that makes him so hard to turn into a successful film character. Unlike other comic characters there are few chances for true character development, and there is often nothing more to the plot lines than mindless violence and huge explosions. In the Avengers there were other characters to compensate for this, but every Hulk film so far has lacked the ability find an engaging story that enables the audience to truly empathise with the titular character. This is not so much the fault of Hollywood producers, but a fault in the character himself; the comics work fine because of the ongoing threat of Bruce Banner being hunted, and the internal fight between Banner and the €˜other guy.€™ Films simply do not have the time to expand upon this, opting for the endless cascade of army helicopters being hunted and tanks destroyed. As The Hulk is a member of the Avengers it is unlikely we have seen the last of the gargantuan green hero€™s stand alone films, but it is destined to be void of genuine storylines; the ability of the other MCU characters to have storylines that impact each other€™s films makes them interesting, The Hulk is a character that is so hard to do this for.
