10 Comic Book Characters That Were Slaughtered By Hollywood

5. Storm

The woman who led the X-Men in the absence of Cyclops has been severely neglected in the movie adaptations; not only is Halle Berry rather robotic in her portrayal, but the script leads her to be little more than a teacher at the school. Her monumental powers are squandered on a few lightning shots and a set of glazed white contact lenses. Whereas the comic character is a domineering, strong leader, the film adaptation is little more than token service to the die-hard legion of fans who would have been vocal in their opposition if she had been omitted. Artistic license is crucial to the success of the X-Men films, but Storm is one of the few characters who would have benefited from being portrayed as closer to the source material. The script failed to give her any character development, and the few scenes she has in the first three films are restricted to teaching and pastoral care, or striking foes with lightning; this is a disgrace for a character who is consistently displaying leadership traits in the comics. In The Last Stand she took more of a leading role, but even then she was overshadowed by Wolverine; in Days of Future Past she is a nostalgic figure to link the old trilogy to the newer entries to the franchise. The consistent weakness to her character in the franchise is a disappointment to X-Men fans everywhere.
