10 Comic Book Characters Who've Never Had A Decent Movie
7. John Constantine
Introduced during Alan Moore’s run on DC’s Swamp Thing, John Constantine is a working class occult detective based in London, so naturally this flashy movie version turns him into Keanu Reeves, relocates the action to Los Angeles and gives him Shia LaBouef as a wisecracking sidekick.
Think about that for a moment: in order to bring the character to a wider audience, they changed his origin, his locale and partnered him with the kid from the Transformers movies. Not since Howard The Duck has the movie adaptation so badly mangled the source material.
It’s not all bad, though: Peter Stormare turns up as Satan, but even he can’t do much to enliven two hours of laborious twaddle. Didn’t Rachel Weisz learn her lesson after being paired with Keanu in Chain Reaction?
