It's unfathomable to imagine the MCU without Chris Hemsworth, but that may soon become an unfortunate reality. A stalwart of the company for over a decade now, the Aussie actor represents the old-guard audiences have become accustomed to and grown to adore as a result.

With 9 cinematic appearances under his belt, it's safe to say Thor has experienced significant highs on the silver screen and some considerable lows if Thor: Love and Thunder is anything to go by.

Before the film's release, Hemsworth and the character had been working in tandem to construct and implement a damaged but defiant Thor, and to great effect. However, the Thor depicted within Love and Thunder was uncharacteristically silly and trivial in comparison to his previous appearances, making both the act and viewing experience equally tiresome.

With director Taika Waititi deciding to abandon the characteristics that made his Thor so relatable and revered in the past, the 39 year old is well within his right to call it a day and hang the hammer up for good.

Hemsworth has admitted he’d be willing to return given the right circumstances whilst appearing on Josh Horowitz’s 'Happy Sad Confused’ podcast in that “It would have to be a drastically different version… just for my own sanity.” A damning assessment to say the least, and with Hemsworth taking a subsequent break from acting after discovering he is at an elevated risk of developing Alzheimer’s, leaving the God of Thunder behind may be what is best for him going forward.
