10 Comic Book Movie Firings That Changed Everything

8. Tim Burton - Batman Forever

As we€™ve touched upon already, Batman Forever marked a huge turning point for the Batman franchise. Michael Keaton left the cowl for Val Kilmer, and Joel Schumacher took over the directorial reins from Tim Burton. You might expect that a director of Burton€™s calibre made the decision to walk away, but what really happened sounds a lot like a sacking. "I remember toying with the idea of doing another one,€ Burton recalled in the documentary Shadow Of The Bat. €œAnd I remember going into Warner Bros and having a meeting. And I€™m going, €˜I could do this or we could do that.€™€ But Warner Bros didn€™t want Burton€™s ideas, according to the man himself. €œAnd they go like, €˜Tim, don€™t you want to do a smaller movie now? Just something that€™s more ?€™€ he recounted. €œAbout half an hour into the meeting, I go, €˜You don€™t want me to make another one, do you?€™ And they go, €˜Oh, no, no, no, no, no!€™ And I just said, €˜No, I know you!€™ So, we just stopped it right there.€ That€™s pretty much a sacking, then, albeit a very polite one that took half an hour.
