10 Comic Book Movie Firings That Changed Everything
8. Tim Burton - Batman Forever
As weve touched upon already, Batman Forever marked a huge turning point for the Batman franchise. Michael Keaton left the cowl for Val Kilmer, and Joel Schumacher took over the directorial reins from Tim Burton. You might expect that a director of Burtons calibre made the decision to walk away, but what really happened sounds a lot like a sacking. "I remember toying with the idea of doing another one, Burton recalled in the documentary Shadow Of The Bat. And I remember going into Warner Bros and having a meeting. And Im going, I could do this or we could do that. But Warner Bros didnt want Burtons ideas, according to the man himself. And they go like, Tim, dont you want to do a smaller movie now? Just something thats more ? he recounted. About half an hour into the meeting, I go, You dont want me to make another one, do you? And they go, Oh, no, no, no, no, no! And I just said, No, I know you! So, we just stopped it right there. Thats pretty much a sacking, then, albeit a very polite one that took half an hour.
