10 Comic Book Movie Firings That Changed Everything

9. James Purefoy - V For Vendetta

James Purefoy has had an eclectic career including roles in A Knight€™s Tale, John Carter and Solomon Kane. At one stage, his CV would have included the comic book film V For Vendetta as well. He was cast in the title role of V in James McTeigue and the Wachowkis 2005 Alan Moore adaptation. However, Purefoy was sacked from the film with six weeks of shooting already in the can. Creative differences were cited at the time, although the prevailing rumours suggested that Purefoy was fed up of wearing V€™s iconic mask, and was resultantly given the boot. Purefoy has denied this since, though. He said to ComicBookMovie.com that €œI don€™t really talk about it much because we agreed not to. The only rumour I can scotch is that if anybody thinks I was too pussy to wear a mask, they€™re completely wrong. It was nothing to do with wearing the mask.€ The exact reason for his departure remains a mystery, then. Purefoy has had no shortage of work since, so we doubt he€™s loosing too much sleep over this one. Despite the mask, V ended up being one of Hugo Weaving€™s iconic roles. Everyone€™s a winner.
