10 Comic Book Movie Moments That Felt More Like Horror Movies

2. Mephisto's Shadow (Ghost Rider)

After the Phantom Rider had refused to retrieve the contract of San Venganza on behalf of Mephisto (or Mephistopheles, as he was known in this movie), knowing that it would give him the power to bring hell to Earth around 150 years prior, Mephistopheles approaches young motorcycle stunt rider Johnny Blaze with a bargaining opportunity - he offers to cure Johnny's father's lung cancer in exchange for Johnny's soul. Upon his approach to Johnny on a thundery night after closing hours at a carnival where Johnny was performing, Mephistopheles appears to be nothing more than an elderly man with a cane. However, when lightning strikes and the place lights up, he casts a shadow that is shaped more like a demon. The scene is reminiscent of the classic old Nosferatu movies, when the ancient vampire was creeping around and casting his own shadow against the wall by the stairs. It basically reeked of classic horror.
