10 Comic Book Movie Performances So Boring It Actually Hurt

2. Cyclops - James Marsden - X-Men

There are many, many Cyclops fans - and James Marsden fans, for that matter - who will stop at nothing to protect their most beloved hero whenever he gets slammed on a blog or website (and he does a lot). But despite the fact that Marsden is a likeable chap, it's difficult to deny the fact that, yes, as painful as it is to say it, his embodiment of Cyclops is fairly boring. Remembering that he's appeared in three X-Men movies, there was never a moment in any of them where he felt like a person: it's surprising that his power is "laser beam eyes" and not "being a bore." So how much of this character's failings are down to Marsden? A fair amount, we say. Whereas Cyclops is a comic book character renowned for his stoic, responsible and sensitive tendencies, he's also noticeably less flat on the page - which is really saying something. In all his appearances as the character, it mostly felt like Marsden was telling himself not to display a solid emotion, as if Bryan Singer had cast RoboCop in the role instead (and we're not talking about the actor who plays him, but the actual character of RoboCop). Defend him if you must; he's tedious.
