10 Comic Book Movie Performances So Boring It Actually Hurt

6. Lois Lane - Amy Adams - Man Of Steel

Amy Adams is without a doubt one of the finest actors of her generation, and yet... she was sort of rubbish in Man of Steel, wasn't she? Okay, maybe she wasn't exactly "rubbish," but her role very much was, which made her seem rubbish in turn. Lois Lane has the potential to be a very interesting character, but here Adams does pretty much nothing to define her as anything other than a somewhat plucky reporter who has no choice but to become a love interest. It's not all Adams' fault - it's the role - but this marks one of her most noticeably dull turns for ages. It's probably true to say that absolutely nobody went home thinking about Lois Lane or Amy Adams having seen Man of Steel - what other Amy Adams movies you can say that about? Usually she's the best thing in the movies, as witnessed by recent turns in Her and American Hustle. The material she was given to work with here was not great; when you're forced to fall in love with Superman in such a short space of time, it's hard to make it believable. But Adam's Lois very nearly feels like she walked onto the set, caught between other projects, and acted as herself.
