On the back of the brilliant Clueless (yes it is!) and cult classic The Babysitter, Alicia Silverstone's star was rising in the mid-90s and when the question of Batgirl came up, Joel Schumacher and Warner Bros. looked to her.

Sadly, nobody thought to write a script, or make sure Schumacher had ever read a comic book, and Silverstone's role amounted to her delivering her lines like she had a boiled egg in her mouth, and gratuitous close-ups of her leather-clad bottom. Several conspicuous backwards steps followed.
