10 Comic Book Movie Plots That Rely On Idiotic Decisions

4. Lex Luthor's Real Estate Plans (Superman & Superman Returns)

In the first Superman movie, Lex Luthor's plan was to fire a missile to trigger a massive Earthquake around the San Andreas Fault, with the aim of sinking California, killing millions, and using the desert land he had purchased - which would now be the West coast of America and thus increase in value exponentially - to build and sell real estate and make a fortune. In Superman Returns, Lex Luthor's plan is to combine Kryptonite with some Kryptonian crystals he had stolen, which would create a new continent-sized land mass in the Northern Atlantic Ocean. The new land would cause tidal waves all over the world, killing millions, but the the new continent would be owned by him and he could sell land on their to earn billions of dollars. Essentially, in both cases, Luthor wanted to make millions by doing something that would, first and foremost, kill millions. That's stupid in itself, but the fact that he neglected to realise that he'd be arrested for mass genocide and never reap the rewards was quite idiotic to say the least.
