10 Comic Book Movie Roles Matthew McConaughey Should Play
4. Starman
Whilst somebody out there is no doubt trying to remake John Carpenter's surprisingly sensitive, sentimental sci-fi romance Starman, there's no suggestion Matthew McConaughey should attempt to fill Kurt Russel's shoes. That name is shared with another of DC's prominent Southern superheroes, know to his friends as Jack Knight. Get it. A second-generation cosmic hero who inherited his powers from his goofy fifties superhero father, Jack Knight was a reluctant hero who took on the mantle after his similarly superpowered brother was killed. Wielding a cosmic staff, leather jacket and goggles, he was a most nineties superhero. That Starman was a rebellious teen who chose not to dress or act like a superhero. Age him up a little, though, and bear in mind his home of Opal City is in South Carolina, and you have a classic McConaissance star: troubled, wary of his past and responsibilities, and dealing with all the dark psychic residue of the region. That would be cool to see.
