10 Comic Book Movie Scenes That Totally Dominated Their Films
9. Tracking Shot, Assemble! - The Avengers (2012)
Given the $1.5bn dollar box office and enthusiastic response to The Avengers, its sometimes easy to forget that the movie starts off pretty slowly. After a somewhat disappointing first act, the superhero team-up begins building to a crescendo, culminating in the showstopping third act battle of New York. Full of massively entertaining moments, the best of all comes with a swooping tracking shot that follows Earth's Mightiest Heroes as they do what they do best. An impressive technical feat, despite only running for a minute the tracking shot required four separate greenscreen sets, 1200 individual shots of the city to create a digital cityscape and dozens of effects artists working on different aspects of the shot. Not only is it an ingenious piece of movie magic, but in the context of the movie it shows that The Avengers have finally become a cohesive unit, as well as providing one of the most crowd-pleasing scenes in recent blockbuster history.
I don't do social media, so like or follow me in person but please maintain a safe distance or the authorities will be notified. Don't snap me though, I'll probably break. I was once labelled a misogynist on this very site in a twenty paragraph-long rant for daring to speak ill of the Twilight franchise. I stand by what I said, it's crap.
