10 Comic Book Movie Scenes That Totally Dominated Their Films
7. Nazis In Scotland - Hellboy (2004)
When talking about the greatest entries in the comic book genre, Guillermo del Toro's Hellboy movies rarely get a mention. Which is a shame as the director clearly loves the source material, the production design is frequently stunning, and Ron Perlman makes for one of the genre's all-time great protagonists. Unfortunately, Hellboy is less than the sum of its parts and loses its way the further on the narrative gets, but it does boast an excellent opening scene that is easily the movie's best. Neatly establishing both the supernatural elements of the premise and introducing the title character in the closing moments, the prologue also incorporates several of the movie's pivotal central characters as well as providing an entertaining set-piece. In an exercise in economy, it takes del Toro less than ten minutes to deliver a great action scene, establish the mythology and provide both backstory and motivation for both the main heroes and villains in one fell swoop. While the rest of Hellboy is good, it never quite matches the giddy heights of the opening scene.
I don't do social media, so like or follow me in person but please maintain a safe distance or the authorities will be notified. Don't snap me though, I'll probably break. I was once labelled a misogynist on this very site in a twenty paragraph-long rant for daring to speak ill of the Twilight franchise. I stand by what I said, it's crap.
