10 Comic Book Movie Scenes That Totally Dominated Their Films
6. Hulk Smash! - The Incredible Hulk (2008)
Despite providing a more measured, thoughtful take on the superhero blockbuster, Ang Lee's 2003 interpretation of The Hulk was not to everyone's taste. By way of contrast, Louis Letterier's reboot decided to go in the opposite direction and provide thinly-written characters and massive-scale destruction. Although The Incredible Hulk is only a serviceable genre flick (and the unwanted stepchild of the Marvel Cinematic Universe), the climactic Harlem showdown delivered the Hulk-smashing action audiences had been craving. Whereas the first movie offered us weird Hulk/dog hybrids and CGI Nick Nolte, the reboot jettisoned any notions of plot or characterisation in favour of city-wide carnage befitting of an angry green rage monster. Buildings, vehicles and entire blocks end up as nothing but debris, and in that final scene we finally had the big-screen Hulk that we had been waiting for. Unfortunately, mixed critical and commercial reception to the movie would see 'the other guy' lay dormant until he reared his Mark Ruffalo-shaped head in The Avengers four years later.
I don't do social media, so like or follow me in person but please maintain a safe distance or the authorities will be notified. Don't snap me though, I'll probably break. I was once labelled a misogynist on this very site in a twenty paragraph-long rant for daring to speak ill of the Twilight franchise. I stand by what I said, it's crap.
