7. What's The Status Of Hulk's Transformation Abilities? (The Avengers)

So, in the Avengers movie, Bruce Banner transformed in to the Hulk twice. Once, he did so involuntarily after the trauma of an explosion on the S.H.I.E.L.D. Helicarrier triggered it and, another time, he did so by choice as a Chitauri leviathan approached, proclaiming that he was "always angry" before one-shotting the massive armoured beast. Now, although there has been a lot of debate about this, we're aware that the involuntary transformation was triggered by an external and unavoidable occurrence, but what exactly is the status of Banner's ability to control turning in to the Hulk? Exactly how much trauma would he be able to withstand before he turned without being able to prevent it? It's a grey area and something that needs clarifying in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, because the risk that the Hulk poses to his own team-mates is one that should never be overlooked and we'd like to know exactly how fragile his condition is.
