9. The Chitauri (The Avengers)

The Chitauri were the alien race who served as the secondary antagonist - with Loki being the primary antagonist - in the Avengers movie. They effectively replaced the Skrulls, who would probably have been given the role had Fox not owned the rights to the characters, and they looked fantastic. The attention to detail on every individual Chitauri soldier was great. Each one was motion captured by a real actor and they were made to look formidable by virtue of their size and fearsome by virtue of their general appearance. However, they were so disgracefully weak that they just sucked big time. How were we expected to take them as credible threats to the likes of Hulk and Thor when Black Widow and Hawkeye were taking them out in hand-to-hand combat? Very disappointing for such an epic movie.
