10 Comic Book Movies Everyone Tried To Copy

3. Spider-Man

At the end of the '90s, a lot of superhero movies started to get really silly really fast. While something like 1989's Batman saw a more authentic take on the character, the emergence of Batman and Robin at the end of the millennium saw studios falling back into bad habits, with scenes that were equal parts cringe and cartoony. Even with all the corny elements at play, Sam Raimi came to the forefront and made those tropes feel new again.

Being the director known for the Evil Dead franchise, Raimi took his more over-the-top style to the Friendly Neighborhood wallcrawler, but the more glorified elements never felt forced. Instead of feeling like a cheap copy of a comic book, the presentation always made you feel like Raimi was just as much a fan of Spider-Man as the audience was.

Though you could see the charm in Raimi's films, a lot of studios just wanted to be the next Spider-Man. This led to a lot of big names starring in some of the worst superhero movies ever made, from Ben Affleck desperately trying to bring life to Daredevil to Halle Berry gracefully accepting her Razzie for Worst Actress in Catwoman.

It may have been fun seeing Raimi bring his magic to a superhero movie, but when it started to spread, there came a time when superheroes started to be treated as silly again.
