10 Comic Book Movies Everyone Tried To Copy
4. Avengers
The Avengers was a shock to the system in the summer of 2012. While this superhero team-up film had been teased for years by the Marvel big-wigs, no one expected it to be as huge as it was. For as much money as it has brought in, countless film studios have been trying to put their own spin on Marvel's winning formula.
The first copycat to come to the forefront was the DCEU, who quickly decided to get their own connected universe off the ground by rushing out Batman vs. Superman, Suicide Squad, and Justice League. Though DC's heroes may have a more iconic presence, the amount of charm that the Avengers had is still something people are trying to match.
Even outside of comic books, the Dark Universe that tried to find its feet off the strength of the Mummy fell flat on its face due to the endless amount of exposition and lack of a coherent story.
This also ended up birthing the endlessly-mocked "some-beam-in-the-sky" finale, with many Marvel movies afterwards focusing on some light force destroying the planet. Marvel may have outdone themselves with movies like Infinity War and Endgame, but this was the first of its kind to have superheroes play off each other in a natural way.
