10 Comic Book Movies For People Who Don't Like Comic Book Movies

9. Scott Pilgrim vs. the World

There's probably a mass contingency of people who don't even realize that Scott Pilgrim vs. the World is actually a comic book. Compared to the more flashy fight scenes from the likes of Spider-Man or Batman, the over the top drama about this mild mannered teenager making his way through battling his girlfriend's evil exes feels just like some fever dream that just so happened to be put on film.

However, this is the one example where the comic book aesthetic goes so far over the top back into being funny.

Aside from the brilliant performances from the likes of Michael Cera and Mary Elizabeth Winstead, the actual amount of cheese in some of these visuals is enough to make even the most jaded movie fans chuckle a little bit. Using the comic book format as his template, Edgar Wright really went all out into making every frame look like it's ripped straight from a panel, even freeze framing at the right times for maximum hilarity, emotional payoff, or both at the same time.

There's even a few more in jokes for the more astute comic book nerds, from making meta jokes in the background to having characters in the actual film pointing out that the comic book is always better than the movie. You might not need to think too much in regards to this movie, and yet the jokes and visuals haven't worn out their welcome over a decade later.
