10 Comic Book Movies That Could Have Been Saved With A Single Tweak
3. Ben Kingsley Is Actually The Mandarin - Iron Man 3
Without a doubt, the twist that occurs mid-way through Iron Man 3 remains one of the most divisive (and inherently annoying) surprises in comic book movie history. Said twist, of course, reveals that Ben Kingsley, who was cast as arch-villain Mandarin, isn't actually the Mandarin, and is in actuality an actor named Trevor hired by Guy Pearce's Aldrich Killian, who - essentially - is the "real" Mandarin. Confused, yet? Us, too. Most people who sat down to Iron Man 3 ended up feeling somewhat conned by this inventive bit of narrative treachery - so much so, in fact, that the backlash against the third Tony Stark adventure could be felt for months afterwards. But had Marvel instead gone down another route (one that meant Ben Kingsley was actually the Mandarin), Iron Man 3 would probably have ended up as a far better, more memorable flick.
