10 Comic Book Movies That Completely Ignored The Source

4. Constantine

Constantine It€™s amazing what can be done to a charcter by altering only a few things about them. Such was the case with 2005€™s Constantine. Played By Keanue Reeves, this version of John Constantine barely resembles his comic book counterpart, both in appearance and attitude. Comic book Constantine is a sandy-haired, chain-smoking British con-man with a trench-coat and knowledge of magic and spells. Reeves kept not only his black hair for the role, but also used his regular voice, making the character American. The character was also given the abilities to see half-breeds and make invisible people visible. But hey, at least he still chain-smokes, right? Rather than being a general supernatural film, a lot of the magic in the film was made to originate from Christian culture. Funny enough, by the end of the film, Constantine ditches his smoking habit. I don€™t know, a comic Constantine chewing nictotine gum just doesn€™t have the same feel to it. The film itself got mixed reviews, but with all that was altered to the character€™s appearance and personality, it doesn€™t feel like John Constantine got the representation he deserved on film. Guillermo del Toro has recently announced plans to make a Justice League Dark film, of which Constantine is a member, but it€™s unknown whether Reeves will reprise his role or they will go with a new version of the character.
