10 Comic Book Movies That Failed To Live Up To The Hype
9. Avengers: Age Of Ultron (2015)
Even Joss Whedon has admitted that Avengers: Age Of Ultron is a "weird" movie. But whilst Whedon seems proud of that fact (whilst acknowledging that he didn't really set out to make a film in that vein), it's hard to share his enthusiasm. Because for all the things that ultimately work about Age Of Ultron, most of the film simply doesn't. It's kind of a mess. There was always going to make massive hype with regards to a new Avengers movie, given the success of the first. The very point of an Avengers movie is to bring together multiple superheroes, and sitting down to it almost feels like you're cheating; like you're paying for one superhero movie and getting to see four or five. Age Of Ultron isn't as successful a movie as its predecessor, though: it's not as fun, nor anywhere near as fluid. In the trailer, Ultron was presented as genuine threat, whilst in the film he turned out to be way more comical. But the biggest problem is that the movie attempts so many things but only to a certain point, leaving everything feeling rushed. Whilst The Avengers hardly had a coherent plot, it at least committed to its storyline with gusto. This sequel, on the other hand, felt like a hodgepodge struggling to come to life and failed to meet expectations.
