10 Comic Book Movies That Got MULTIPLE Characters Wrong

2. X-Men: First Class

Batman & Robin Villains
20th Century Fox

We're not making another entry about the failures of Dark Phoenix and Apocalypse. That's low hanging fruit at this point, Oscar Isaac couldn't pull off a good Ivan Ooze and Sansa Stark failed as Jean Grey- we get it. A sequel can only stand on the foundation built by the movies before them. 2011's X-Men: First Class was a reboot that was supposed to give the franchise a clean slate after the failure that was X-Men 3.

When told the title is "First Class", one would assume that the creators will draw from the original line-up of Cyclops, Jean Grey, Iceman, Angel, and Beast. Sure Beast is there with young Professor X. But instead of Cyclops, we're treated to his (now) older brother Alex who takes on most of Scott's traits. We get an Angel, only this one is Angel Salvadore who is a former stripper rather than an abused teen. No Marvel Girl or Bobby Drake.

We get Banshee introduced to the team far too early. And Darwin, who's power literally means he can not die, dies. From here it only gets worse with Jennifer Lawrence's version of Mystique. Rebecca Romijn did a fairly admirable job with the older version of the character. Even when Lawrence was still giving effort, her character was written all wrong as Charles' adopted sister and now she fights with the good guys when it's convenient?

While First Class is actually one of the better movies, it's no wonder the X-Men franchise kept getting worse. If only they had started off with the right characters...
