After eight long years spent working on the Marvel adaptation Ant-Man it was suddenly announced that Shaun of the Dead director Edgar Wright would be leaving the project, much to the dismay of his fans. While both Wright and Marvel Studios are remaining mature and tight-lipped about the situation, issuing a simple statement citing the departure was due to differences in their vision of the film, theres been several theories about what the issue couldve been mostly around studios execs demanding too many script rewrites for Wrights liking in an effort to fit the film more within the Marvel Comics Universe. Nevertheless, Peyton Reed took over directing duties (though Wright and co-writer Joe Cornish still got screenplay and story credits) and the film was released this summer. The Results: Despite positive fanfare from Marvel and the announcement of a sequel, if its general reception and poor box office performance are anything to go by Ant-Man may have fared better with Wright as director.
