10 Comic Con Announcements The Fanboys Would Love

6. Idris Elba Cast As Apocalypse

After shrewdly fixing pretty much everything that was wrong with the X-Men movie universe in Days of Future Past, Bryan Singer eagerly set his sights on a follow-up, by way of May 2016's X-Men: Apocalypse, a sequel which was teased by a glorious post-credit scene featuring the titular villain. Though the 80s setting and promise of seeing young iterations of Cyclops, Jean Grey and Storm is tantalising, the real intrigue of the movie is the iconic baddie, who is one of the most compellingly powerful villains in all of comic lore. We can't think of a better actor for the part than Idris Elba. Sure, he's already on Marvel's payroll for Thor, but it's not exactly a time-consuming role for the actor, and who can resist seeing the guy who famously quipped "We are cancellin' the apocalypse!" playing the very same? A role as huge and important as Apocalypse needs an actor with the chops to sell that importance, and we suspect Elba will be able to convey Apoc's superhuman intelligence as well as the sheer terror his mere name invites.
