7. Getting Knocked Out Is Nothing

So the hero managed to evade his pursuers that time. He's not out of the woods yet, though, and while running around trying to thwart the disaster du jour a henchman gets the drop on him. Before he can react, the crony promptly cracks our hero across the head with the butt of a gun, knocking him out cold. The next scene catches up with the character a few hours later, captured but feeling fine, setting the stage for a daring escape. That bump on the head was nothing but a mild inconvenience. In reality, losing consciousness from a blow to the head is cause for serious concern. Even if you're out for only a few minutes, it's likely you have a concussion. Worse, that knockout blow could cause a serious brain injury, or internal bleeding. Unlike our action hero friends, who seem to just shake off a few cobwebs and continue the fight, there's little chance of doing much besides visiting the hospital after getting hit. If it happens, call an ambulance.
