9. Scoob! Holiday Haunt
Despite the fact Scoob! received mixed ratings due to its derivative jokes and that weird Simon Cowell cameo, a sequel seemed to always be on the cards. Since this animated adaptation was meant to serve as the doorway to a cinematic universe filled with Hanna-Barbara properties like Captain Caveman and Wacky Races, it would've been nuts not to greenlight a follow-up.
And when Scoob! became one of the most successful PVOD films during the pandemic, a prequel called Scoob! Holiday Haunt was officially a go.
Sadly, all that changed when David Zaslav became the CEO of Warner Bros. Discovery this year. Being under new management, everyone expected the studio would suffer a shakeup.
But no one was ready for how mercilessly Zaslav would cut projects left, right, and centre. Because he was focusing more on theatrical releases, streaming exclusives on HBO Max were scrapped, including Scoob! Holiday Haunt.
Although the prequel is practically finished, it's as good as dead, according to the director. Even though studios make tough decisions like this all the time, axing Holiday Haunt still feels unfair. Considering its budget was only $40 million, it only needed to make less than a hundred mil to be deemed profitable.
Nevertheless, Zaslav didn't want to risk it, killing the project.
