6. Destroyer

Release Date: 25 January 2019

Having already been round the festival circuit, generating a superb 82-percent score on Rotten Tomatoes in the process, the buzz surrounding Destroyer is already off the charts, and by all accounts, it lives up to the high standard set by director Karyn Kusama's last effort, The Invitation.

Erin Bell (an unrecognisable Nicole Kidman) is an aged detective, who, in her younger days, took part in a lengthy undercover operation that ended badly. Years later, when some of those past demons re-enter the light, she wades into the fray once more, attempting to close off that chapter of her life for good.

The transformation Kidman has gone through here is astounding, with her greying hair, dark eyes, rough skin and stern expression pulling the actress miles away from the blonde Australian beauty we've all come to know. With Kusama's penchant for helming intense thrillers in mind, all signs point to Destroyer being a dark, morally complex tale about justice, and how it's not always so black and white.

And if those early reviews are to be believed, there's a chance Kidman could win the second Oscar of her career.

He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
