10 Contemporary Films That Improve Greatly With A Second Viewing

5. Prometheus

There were two types of viewing experiences to be had upon initially watching this long awaited prequel/spin off. One was to be pleasantly entertained, and the other was to be wildly underwhelmed. A significant number of Alien fans found themselves in the camp of the latter. There were just too many unanswered questions, too many ambiguities; too many plot holes, to make Prometheus worth the effort. But once you have ruminated on it a bit, give the engineers and their wild party another go. You€™ll be shocked by how much you enjoy it second time around. Prometheus is one of those films that suffer from a) its own hype and b) an ambitious story. Much in a similar way to how Charlie Kaufman likes to layer his screenplays; Ridley Scott has intricately woven a tapestry of myths and red herrings into Prometheus that almost put it on par with The Shining for hidden subtext. Many expected outright horror when settling down to watch this film, but what they got was sci-fi paranoia. Now we know what to expect, a plethora of theories and motifs await us. All of a sudden, David€™s actions don€™t seem so odd. Exposition appears within dialogue. Things feel less random, and the universe of Alien rapidly doesn€™t feel so far away. Damon Lindelof is currently accepting apologies from overzealous fans via Twitter.

Part critic-part film maker, I have been living and breathing film ever since seeing 'Superman' at the tender age of five. Never one to mince my words, I believe in the honest and emotional reaction to film, rather than being arty or self important just for cred. Despite this, you will always hear me say the same thing - "its all opinion, so watch it and make your own." Follow me @iamBradWilliams
