10 Controversial James Bond Movie Moments That Couldn't Exist Today

8. Bond The Blackmailer (Thunderball, 1965)

Bond is notorious for his womanising ways, no doubt, but there are times in which his romantic advances veer a little too closely towards the uncomfortable.

After narrowly surviving an attempt on his life at Shrublands Health Clinic, by way of a sabotaged stretching machine, a reeling Bond remarks that “somebody’s going to wish today never happened.” Nurse Molly, totally misconstruing this, believes Bond is referring to her. “Please,” she pleads, I could lose my job!”

It’s here that 007 smells blood, on top of the blood almost constantly rushing to his nether-regions. “Well,” he lecherously suggests, “I suppose my silence could have a price…”

After Nurse Molly had so valiantly fended off his prior advances, it feels more than a tad icky that she’s now forced to relent, perceiving her livelihood to be at stake. It’s hard to believe that Bond would really get her sacked unless she agrees to hop in the sack, but she doesn’t know that, and that’s something 007 takes full advantage of.

As Bond backs her into a steamy room for some steamy action, he counters her feeble protest of “oh no…” with a wolfish “oh yes…” and, as if by magic, acquiring her consent… just barely.

Modern day PC version: “Well, I suppose my silence could have a price…” “You don’t mean…?” “Certainly not, and I’m appalled by the implication!”
