Y Tu Mama Tambien is not only one of the best road movies ever made but also one of the best coming of age dramas of all time. Julio and Tenoch begin the film as immature boys who just want to party and live carefree lifestyles but by the end they are barely recognizable when compared to their former selves. The introduction of Luisa into the movie sets the narrative in motion while also building on the dynamics between the characters. The direction of Y Tu Mama Tambien allows it to have a deeply personal feeling through the incorporation of long takes and a significant sense of artistry from Cuaran while the performances are always left at the forefront to combine technical prowess and acting ability perfectly.
