Why It Sounds Cool: Star Wars. Star Wars, Star Wars, Star Wars. That's literally all you're going to hear for the next few years. On top of Episode VII directed by J.J. Abrams in 2015 and Episode VIII directed by Rian Johnson in 2017, we're going to get a run of spin-off movies looking at individual characters outside of the central Skywalker story. With Gareth Edwards and Josh Trank attached, these movies will fill the gap years between full episodes, meaning that Star Wars will never again be far away from our cinema screens. Why We Don't Really Need It: Just think about things in a rational sense. Spin-off movies are rarely that great and Star Wars has one of the more iffy runs of such films; The Clone Wars movie was a disaster and previous TV movies (the eighties brought two starring Ewoks) weren't much better. On top of that, the main thing building hype for these movies (that it's new Star Wars) won't carry them through to 2016; they will come out once Star Wars has been back a year, meaning the novelty will have worn off. And then there's the characters suggested to star. Namely, Boba Fett, Han Solo and Yoda, three characters whose backstories we should never really uncover. We have a bad feeling about this.
