10 Craziest Harry Potter Fan Theories

2. The Secret Horcrux Ingredient

Beyond requiring a deliberate act of murder, not much else is known about the exact process of creating a horcrux. J.K. Rowling has been purposefully vague about the subject throughout the Harry Potter series although she does make several references to it being an ‘unspeakable’ act.

We do know that the creation of a horcrux is considered one of the darkest acts of magic and that the full process was enough to visibly disturb both Horace Slughorn and Hermione Granger. It’s such a horrific process that even J.K. Rowling’s editor vomited when told about it.

So it has to be something suitably gross and amoral and this theory has the perfect, gruesome suggestion – cannibalism. It kind of makes sense too. In dark magic circles, the consumption of flesh supposedly imbues the diner with the power and strength of the person they’re munching on and Voldemort certainly seems the like type who wouldn’t be against a human meal or two.

Plus, it makes sense that Rowling wouldn’t explicitly state cannibalism was involved as it’s probably too dark a subject matter for children’s books. Even if subjects like mass murder, child abuse and racism are perfectly fine for inclusion.
