Adrian Brody is no stranger to physical transformations, having turned himself into barely a shadow for his Oscar winning turn in The Pianist. It’s a little surprising that he put a similar amount of preparation into action bloodbath Predators.

The 2010 addition to the Predator franchise isn’t a bad film at all, but it doesn’t seem like the sort of project that would inspire such dedication in an actor. Brody, it seems, felt he had a point to prove, knowing he wasn’t exactly typical casting for a big budget blockbuster. He gained 25 pounds just to look the part - but he went a little deeper than that.

Brody isolated himself from the rest of the cast, shooting in Hawaii. He studied military texts and tactics, gave up sugar and sex, meditated, and placed himself in the mindset of a mercenary fighting for his life in the unforgiving jungle.

Whether or not such efforts were really necessary, they speak well of Brody as an actor, whose investment cannot be challenged. Either that, or he just really enjoys running off and being on his own for long spells.
