10 Crazy Movie Endings You Didn't Believe

2. Indiana Jones And The Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull

Switchblade Romance
Paramount Pictures

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull is such an interesting beast.

Despite the absurdity of an opening act in which Indy survives a nuclear explosion by hiding in a fridge, the film manages to soon get itself back on track and provide plenty of moments that brought franchise fans back onside. But then, well then there's the final 20 minutes or so of the picture...

Of course, the Indiana Jones franchise has never been shy of asking its audience to suspend their disbelief for a moment, with the supernatural chicanery of Raiders of the Last Ark or the ideal of the Holy Grail delivered in ways that felt somehow believable to fans. With Kingdom of the Crystal Skull's 'alien archaeologists' reveal though, this felt like one step too far, and even worse was how the film's concluding act never felt anything but ham-fisted.

Seeing the MacGuffin of this fourth Indiana Jones film be revealed as an alien head was one of the more perplexing movie finales in recent memory, and all of this was topped off nicely by alien beings actually turning up to interact with Harrison Ford's Dr. Henry Walton Jones, Jr. before a spaceship surfaced and zoomed up to the stars.
